Crab Derby Shirt Design

Backstory

I had previously been asked by my boyfriend’s parents, the Donohues, to design a t-shirt for their annual RED’s Crab Derby. In this crab derby, boats are split up into teams and each one has a designated time to catch the most crabs and/or the biggest crab.

At first, my boyfriend’s dad requested that I create a lady figure in a crab shell. This idea came from the dents on the back of a blue crab’s shell that resembled a female figure. From this concept I developed my more elaborate design with a heavenly woman emerging from a crab. However, the Donohue parents decided that they perfer a simple outline of a crab. Based on this request and frequent feedback, I was able to create the RED’s design. In the end, I made a design for my clients and a design for myself.
